Raiders Swept by Stars in Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The MSOE softball team dropped their first conference games of the year against the Stars of Dominican University, as the Raiders were swept by one of the top teams in the NACC.

RESULTS

MSOE RAIDERS – 0
Dominican University - 5

MSOE RAIDERS - 3
Dominican University - 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (8-14, 4-2 NACC) fell behind the Stars (17-5, 9-1 NACC) after a four-run inning from Dominican in the bottom of the second.  In the top of the fourth inning, the Raiders would look to start a rally after back-to-back singles from Alyssa Jacobson and Jayda Nelson to open the inning.  Carlee Emery would draw a walk to load the bases for MSOE, but the Red and White struck out swinging in their next three at bats to end the chance.  The Raiders would look for a spark in the top of the seventh after a pinch-hit single from Addie Kortman, but it would not be enough as the Raiders fell in game one by a score of 5-0.
  • Game Two
    • In game two the Stars jumped out in front over MSOE once more, as Dominican recorded a bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the third, going up 2-0 over the Red and White.  Jayda Nelson would be the Raider of the hour in the top of the fourth, crushing a homerun to score Jacobson and Jenna O'Donnell, with the Raiders taking a 3-2 lead at the midway point of game two.
    • The fun would be short lived for the Red and White as Dominican responded in the bottom of the inning with a 2-run double, jumping back into the driver's seat over the Raiders, who now trailed 4-3 coming down the stretch.  A single from Reese Konczal looked to start a comeback in the seventh, but the Stars recorded the next two outs with ease as MSOE fell victim to a conference opponent for the first time this season.
