Raiders Settle for Split with Regents

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE softball team split another doubleheader on Saturday, as the Raiders bested the Rockford Regents 8-2 in game one, before falling 9-4 in the second game of the afternoon.

RESULTS

Rockford Regents – 2
MSOE RAIDERS - 8

Rockford Regents - 9
MSOE RAIDERS - 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (12-16, 8-3 NACC) trailed Rockford (15-15, 3-11 NACC) early after a solo home run in the second inning and an error from the Raiders in the fourth allowed the Regents to take a 2-0 lead. Carlee Emery would knock an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the fourth, giving the Raiders signs of life at the midway point of the game.
    • In the bottom of the fifth, a bun single from Emma Smith would tie the game up, and a single from Autumn Sadler brought Olivia Beals across to give MSOE a 3-2 lead.  After a walk from Jenna O'Donnell loaded the bases, Alyssa Jacobson stepped into the batter's box and crushed a grand slam off the apartment buildings behind Raiders Field.  Katie Pollock was dominant down the stretch for the Raiders, as the sophomore racked up thirteen strikeouts on the way to an 8-2 MSOE win.
  • Game Two
    • In game two the Regents once again jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Raiders would immediately regain the lead in the bottom of the inning.  Back-to-back RBI singles from Emery and Caroline Fouras knotted the game up, before a single from Smith gave the Raiders a 3-2 lead after one inning of play.
    • The Regents would tie the game up on a solo home run in the third, as the Rockford bats began to heat up, adding runs in the fifth and sixth inning.  With the Raiders trailing 8-3, Fouras would deliver another RBI single, but the Regents would add their third home run of the series in the top of the seventh as MSOE fell 9-4 in game two.
