Women's Lacrosse Takes Back and Forth Battle Over Rams; Advances to NACC Semifinal

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – In their first ever conference tournament, the No. 5 seed MSOE women's lacrosse came away victorious over No. 4 seed Cornell College to advance to the NACC semifinal in back-and-forth thriller.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 11

Cornell - 10

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (6-11, 5-4 NACC) took the first swing at the lead when Anika Einbeck succeeded on a free position shot but was quickly answered by Cornell (7-9, 5-4 NACC) with a goal 25 seconds later and then took the lead a minute and a half after that. Lilly Johnson with 1:21 remaining in the quarter took a feed from Vayda Flower to tie up the game after one.
  • The Rams retook the lead just over a minute into the second quarter beginning, but Chloe Ninmann tied it back up on a man-up opportunity just after. Maggie Sanderson gave the Raiders the lead, but the Rams went on a three-goal run to lead 6-4. Thinking they would just head into the break with the lead, Alana Perry and Halleigh Spaulding had different plans, netting ones of their own to tie it up at six at the break.
  • Einbeck and Spaulding helped retake the lead for the Raiders 8-6, but the Rams closed the third quarter on a three-goal run to go up 9-8. After the Rams added one to lead beginning the fourth, Ninmann went on a two-goal run herself to tie the game at ten with 11:57 remaining. 40 seconds later, Ashlyn Bode struck off a rebound to take an 11-10 lead that was never answered to seal it.
