Softball Takes Game Two in Split with Muskies

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The MSOE softball team split their doubleheader with the Lakeland Muskies on Friday afternoon, as the Raiders bounced back from a lopsided game one loss to triumph in a low-scoring 1-0 victory in game two.

RESULTS

MSOE RAIDERS – 3
Lakeland University - 11

MSOE RAIDERS - 1
Lakeland University - 0

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (17-21, 13-9 NACC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over Lakeland (18-20, 12-10 NACC) on a single from Jayda Nelson, but that would mark the only lead of the game for the Raiders, as the Muskies would add runs in the second, third and fourth innings to go up 5-1 on the Red and White.
    • The Raiders would look to spark a rally in the top of the fifth inning as they brought across two runs, including Jenna O'Donnell scoring on an Alyssa Jacobson single.  The Raider comeback would come to a halt in the sixth, as the Muskies added four runs in the bottom of the inning to run-rule the Raiders by a final score of 11-3.
  • Game Two
    • Game two was a low-scoring affair, a stark contrast from game one.  Brynn Timmer was lights out on the mound for the Red and White, going the distance for the Raiders in a dominant seven inning, seven strikeout outing, shutting out the Muskies.
    • The Raiders would need just one run to beat Lakeland with Timmer locked in, and Jacobson would deliver in electric fashion for MSOE.  The centerfielder smashed a ball to deep center field for a triple, and took advantage of a Muskie error to come all the way around and give the Raiders a 1-0 lead in the top of the six.  The score would hold final as the Raiders scored a split with the Muskies, with one series left in the regular season.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
