Raiders Hold Off Sabres in Opening Game of NACC Tournament

GLENDALE, Wis. – The MSOE baseball team capped off day one of the NACC tournament with a bang as they defeated No. 5 seed Marian University to finish off an exciting day of baseball at MSOE Raiders Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Kellen Pate kept things scoreless in the first, Marian (22-20, 13-11 NACC) got the first two runs up on the board in the top of the second on a pair of RBI singles. In the bottom of the third, MSOE (25-16, 18-6 NACC) tied things up when Christian Bosque ripped a deep double into left field to score JJ Jackson and Joe Stried before being tagged out at third.
  • The Raiders jumped ahead in the fourth after Jack Kalitowski reached to begin the inning and raced around to third after an errant pickoff attempt went over the first basemen's head and charged home on a sacrifice fly from Charlie Claas.   • Jayden Hoffman in his relief duties kept the Sabres silent for 2.2 innings. With two outs in the eighth and two men on, the Sabres rocketed a ball into right field to the wall that brought in one run but Stried relayed the ball down to the plate to Bosque to get the integral out to keep the Raiders ahead. Eric Williamson came on for the save and after the first man reached and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt got the final two outs on strikeouts to seal it.

The Raiders will advance to the semi-final tomorrow to take on No. 6 Edgewood College at 4:00 PM.
