Men's Soccer Starts Hot in Season Opening Win at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The MSOE men's soccer team made a statement to begin the 2025 campaign, opening with a dominating win over Calvin University on the road.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 5

Calvin - 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (1-0-0, 0-0-0 NACC) took just over five minutes to open the scoring after a Michael Rohrman corner kick was sent back out of the box and sent back in from himself for Adrian Manchado to perfectly head it through the Calvin (0-1-0, 0-0-0 MIAA) defense. Less than a minute later, Nico Picha turned defense into perfect offense as he stole a pass from the Knights' goalkeeper for a two-on-one opportunity with Rohrman and sliced it low-left to make it 2-0.
  • In the 28th minute after goalkeeper Asher Harris made a perfect save, the Raiders transitioned down the right sideline with Steven Thomas sending it in for Ditar Useni as he chipped it in over the Knights' goalie to extend it up to 3-0. With just over 20 minutes remaining in the first half, Lachlan Ladd made a perfect steal in the Raiders' offensive end, needing just one move to score his first career goal as the Red & White made it 4-0. The Knights were able to end the first half getting on the scoreboard, making it 4-1 at the break.
  • The scoring hit a lull to begin the second half as the scoreboard was silent for the first 15 minutes. As Useni passed the ball up to Picha from midfield, Picha went to work on the Knights defense, making just one move around the defender and sent it to the top left corner to bring the lead back to four. Harris in net continued to dominate, keeping the Knights scoreless the rest of the way.
