Men's Volleyball Defeats Wittenberg, Sweeps North Park in Home Tri-Match

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's volleyball team swept the day in the Kern Center, first defeating Wittenberg University in four sets before rolling past North Park University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • vs. Wittenberg
    • Wittenberg (4-2, 0-0 MVCL) established themselves early, opening the match on a 6-1 before leading 13-5 at the midway point. Callan Harris led the offense to cut their deficit down to four as late as 20-16 until the Tigers closed on a 5-2 run to win the set 25-18. In the second, the Tigers jumped out to a similar lead until Seth Thomas annihilated three straight before an error from the Tigers to tie the set at nine. After a solo block from Hunter Carroll, MSOE (4-2, 0-0 NACC) took their first lead of the match as the two sides began to trade it back and forth. Down 22-20, the Raiders killed four of the next six points with Harris having the final say, taking the set 25-23.
    • Set three went back and forth until the midway point when the Raiders went on a 7-2 run as Thomas kicked it off with an ace and a kill to lead 19-15. After getting to set point, the Tigers made it interesting with two straight until Thomas finished it with a kill to win 25-20. The Raiders erupted early, leading 7-2 after a 5-0 run capped with two aces from Thomas. The Tigers came back to tie the set at eight before trading back and forth. Tied at 22, kills from Harris and Thomas took it to match point and after the Tigers stole a point, the serving from ended it as it went right into the net to win 25-23.
    • Harris and Thomas each racked up double-digit kills with 15 and 13, respectively, receiving most of those from Parker Rings who made 39 assists. Thomas was also lethal from the serving line, adding three aces.
  • vs. North Park
    • Bramm Griever woke up the Kern early the Raiders' second match of the day, making three kills to give them a early 5-3 lead. North Park (1-6, 0-0 CCIW) stormed back to take a 8-6 lead but didn't phase the Red & White as they went on a 7-1 run to lead 13-9 with the help of pairs of kills from Brendan Nesemann and Ryan Huff. Leading 20-14, the Vikings didn't lose their fight as they came back to tie the set at 22. The Raider didn't lose focus, knocking in the final three with Nesemann making the solo block to win 25-22.
    • Griever saw the ball just as well as he did in the first set, making three kills to open giving the Raiders a 6-3 lead. The Raiders then began to slowly build from there capping with a double-digit set win 25-15. Juan J. Llona Baez showed off his serving ability in the third, making back-to-back aces to lead 4-0. Aces from John Wolf and Reed Hefley made it 10-4 before Vikings cut their deficit down to one with a run of their own. The Raiders answered back with a 6-0 run of their own as Antonio Llona Baez made two aces for a commanding lead, cruising from there to win 25-16.
    • Griever had a match high eight kills, with A. Llona Baez making seven and Wolf adding five. Hefley and J. Llona Baez shared the setting duties making 14 and 12, respectively, while the Llona Baez brothers each made three aces.
