Softball Falls to Pioneers on Opening Day

RHINELANDER, Wis. – The MSOE softball team celebrated Opening Day on Thursday evening, with the Carroll Pioneers sweeping the Raiders as they kicked off the 2026 campaign.

RESULTS

Carroll Pioneers – 2
MSOE RAIDERS - 1

MSOE RAIDERS - 2
Carroll Pioneers - 6

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (0-2) and Carroll (2-2) each tallied a lone hit in the first inning, with the Raiders working their way to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. After a Carlee Emery double, a single from Caroline Fouras would bring the right fielder around to score.
    • After a scoreless third inning, the Pioneers would smash a two-run homer, giving Carroll a 2-1 lead over the Red and White. Rikka Ludvigson would record a leadoff double in the bottom of the fourth but would be stranded at third after three consecutive outs for the Raiders.
    • Despite getting runners on for MSOE in both the fifth and the sixth, the Red and White were unable to bring the tying run around. Katie Pollock finished the complete game effort with ten strikeouts in her first outing of the season.
  • Game Two
    • In game two, the Raiders once again took an early lead on the Pioneers, with a single from Jayda Nelson bringing Fouras around to score in the top of the first inning. Ludvigson would drive a ball to center field for a sacrifice fly to bring Lylah DeArmond home, giving the Red and White a 2-0 lead.
    • The Pioneers would knot the game up in the bottom of the second, before bringing another run around in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead over MSOE. Carroll would extend their lead in the fifth and sixth innings as the Red and White were unable to bring another run across against the Pioneers as they look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon against UW-Stevens Point.
