INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA has announced the qualifiers for the Outdoor National Championships next weekend in La Crosse, Wisconsin, seeing
AJ Springer,
Jessa Alderman, and
Sam McPeak all qualifying for the MSOE track & field team.
Springer, a junior from Whitefish Bay, has been on a tear this outdoor season coming off his second Indoor National Championship appearance, qualifying for the first time in his career outdoors in the 800-meter run. Springer has continued to crush competitors, having five event wins, including the title at the NACC Championships just two weeks ago. Springer reset his school record back on April 17
th at the Phil Esten Challenge with a time of 1:51.38, going under 1:52 for the first time in his career. Just one week ago, Springer destroyed his career best time, clocking 1:48.99 at the Uncaged Eagle Open to sit fourth heading into the championships.
Alderman, a senior from Janesville, qualified for her fourth career national championship, her first outdoors in the shot put. Alderman has finished as the top Division III athlete at every meet this season in the event, setting the No. 1 mark in the country back on April 3
rd at the Rex Foster Twilight with a massive throw of 14.91 meters. Holding that position for the last 42 days, Alderman extended her lead, surpassing 15 meters for the first time this season, going 15.09 meters just last week at the Uncaged Eagle Open to have a over a foot lead in the country.
McPeak, a junior from Dublin, Ohio, qualified for his first career national championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. McPeak reset the school record back on April 11
th at the Marquette Invitational, taking just .26 off with a 9:18.63. Six days later, he lowered it again with a 9:12.63 at the Phil Esten Challenge. Following his second straight NACC title in the event, McPeak shattered his personal best, going 9:01.68 to sit 13
th going into the championships.
McPeak will kick off the championships for the Raiders on Thursday, May 21
st in the prelims at 6:35 p.m. with the final being the following day at 6:10 p.m. Alderman will compete on Friday at 1:00 p.m., while Springer will have his prelim later that at 3:35 p.m. with the final coming on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
