Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. - Senior Steven Shaffroth scored his sixth goal of the season, but No. 2 Adrian jumped out to a 3-0 and the MSOE men's hockey team could not rebound in a 4-1 defeat in the series finale of the Harris Cup Quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at Arrington Ice Arena.
The Raiders (7-19-1) see their season end, while the Bulldogs (22-1-4) advance to next weekend's semifinals against the winner of No. 3 St. Scholastica and No. 6 Concordia Wisconsin.
MSOE held tough for a scoreless first period for the second-straight night, but conceded a pair of second-period scores. Ryan Lowe broke the scoreless draw at 8:58 and Ryan Gieseler made it 2-0 at 13:57.
Josh Ranalli opened the scoring in the final period with the first of two goals in the frame at 4:59.
Shaffroth connected with two more seniors playing their final collegiate game, scoring at 8:21 to cut the deficit to 3-1. Michael Thompson and West Bauman assisted on the goal.
The Raiders kept fighting back, and outshot the home team 15-8 in the period, but could get no closer. Ranalli struck again at 14:16 on a power play to make it 4-1.
Freshman Austin Campbell made 29 saves in goal for MSOE. He finished his rookie campaign this in school history with both a 2.04 goals against average and .923 save percentage. His GAA is a freshman record for the Red and White.
