MSOE Comeback Falls Short at Edgewood

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MADISON, Wis. – Seniors David Miklosi in game one and Wes Stasik in game two each homered for the MSOE baseball team, but it was not enough as Edgewood secured the sweep, 9-3 and 9-7, Thursday afternoon at Stampfl Field.

Stasik's three-run, game-two shot pulled the Raiders (8-10, 4-4 NACC) within 9-7, but they could get no closer to the Eagles (8-15, 4-2 NACC).

MSOE could not overcome five errors in game one, as Edgewood struck for six runs in the fifth inning to take control of the game.

In game one, the home team scored first, taking a 1-0 run in the first inning. The Raiders rallied to take the lead 2-1 on a Miklosi two-run shot in the top half of the fifth before the Eagles broke the game open. They then tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to put the game out of reach.

The Red and White tallied a late run, as Miklosi drove in his third run of the game with an RBI single in the ninth inning.

Junior Thomas Hartwick (0-2) got the start and surrendered seven runs (six earned) in five innings. The bullpen provided three innings of strong relief, allowing just one earned run, to close out the game. At the plate, Miklosi and junior Jake Roberts each had three hits.

The Eagles also jumped ahead early in game two, scoring two runs in each of the second, third and fourth innings before a three-spot in the fifth made it 9-4. MSOE attempted to stay close, scoring a run in the third, two more in the fourth and another in the fifth. It pulled within one run on two different occasions in that time.

The Raiders threatened to come back in the eighth inning. After a lead-off walk and, two batters later, a single, Stasik followed with a three-run home run to make it 9-7 with one out. They then loaded the bases with two outs on a hit batter, error and walk, but the Edgewood pitcher induced a ground out to end the threat.

Stasik finished with four RBIs in the game and sophomore Casey Magyar had three hits to propel the Red and White offense.

With eight NACC games this week, five relievers saw action in the game. Junior Josh Kundinger (1-2) made his first start of the season and was saddled with the loss after allowing six runs in four innings.

MSOE gets an off day Friday, before returning to action with a home doubleheader Saturday against Lakeland. The Raiders and Muskies face off at noon at Henry Aaron Field.
