Box Score 2 MEQUON, Wis. – The MSOE baseball team committed three errors and allowed four unearned runs in game one and conceded a walk-off single in game two in dropping both ends of a doubleheader with Concordia Wisconsin Sunday afternoon at Kapco Park.
The Raiders (10-12, 6-6 NACC) fell in game one 5-1 and overcome a 2-0 deficit before falling to the Falcons (8-14, 4-8 NACC) 3-2 on a walk-off single.
Senior Adam Vlaj (2-2) took a touch-luck loss in game one, throwing seven strong innings. He scattered eight hits, walked two and struck out four. He was on the hook for four runs, but just one was earned. Junior Thomas Hartwick pitched the eighth and allowed an unearned run.
MSOE struck first on an RBI ground out by freshman Brandon McCumber, but Concordia responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 1-1.
The Falcons took the lead with a pair of unearned runs in the fifth inning, then capitalized on errors for single two-out unearned runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.
At the plate, the Raider offense was limited to just four hits.
In the second game, the game was tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases with one out for the Falcons. Matt Schubert then singled down the right field line, plating the winning run.
Senior Luke Yogerst (2-2) allowed just four hits in the game, going the distance and striking out three.
CUW led 2-0 after single runs in the second and sixth innings before MSOE got on the board in the late innings.
Junior Max Poeske led off the seventh inning with a single and moved to second on an errant pick-off throw. Sophomore Casey Magyar then followed with an infield single. Another Falcon error allowed Poeske to score from second.
In the eighth inning, senior Derek Jordan led off with a single. After a sacrifice bunt and fly out, junior Jake Roberts singled to right field to score Jordan and tie the game at 2-2.
Jordan, Poeske and Magyar each had two hits in the second game.
The Raiders are back in action at home, hosting a pair of mid-week non-conference doubleheaders. MSOE takes on Beloit Tuesday and Lawrence Wednesday.
