Falls Hurls Gem at #3 Concordia Chicago

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Junior Ben Falls held No. 3 Concordia Chicago scoreless into the 10th inning before allowing an unearned run as the MSOE baseball team was swept in a doubleheader, 1-0 and 11-0, Sunday afternoon at Cougar Field.

The Raiders (12-21, 8-12 NACC) capped their regular season with a pair of losses to the nationally-ranked Cougars (31-3, 17-1 NACC).

Falls (3-3) put together another tremendous start in NACC play, but it went for naught as CUC capitalized on a 10th-inning error to score the game-winner.

The lead-off hitter reached on an error and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a ground out put the runner on third, Dan Eichholzer singled through the left side of the infield to plate the runner.

Falls threw 9.2 innings, allowing six hits and three walks, while striking out four. He worked around trouble early, escaping bases-loaded jams in the first and fourth innings. In the fourth, the Cougars had runners on second and third with no outs.

The leftthander finished strong, allowing just one runner to reach base safely after the sixth inning with three 1-2-3 frames.

In game two, five Red and White errors led to six unearned runs for Concordia, allowing the home team to ease to the victory. Four Raider pitchers saw time on the mound, with junior Thomas Hartwick (0-3) getting the start and throwing three innings. He allowed eight hits and six runs, but only two were earned.

MSOE returns to the diamond Wednesday, heading to Elmurst for a single game.
