Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE – The MSOE baseball team and Carroll each posted big offensive outputs in trading wins in a doubleheader to end the regular season Sunday afternoon at Henry Aaron Field.
The Raiders (13-22) had 17 hits to take game one 11-2, but the Pioneers (11-19) responded with 18 hits in game two to forge a split with an 8-0 victory.
MSOE pounded out 17 hits in game one, breaking open a 2-2 game with six runs in the third inning. The first six batters reached base and each came around to score. Junior Jake Roberts and seniors Tyler Magyar, Zane Witt and Derek Jordan each had RBI hits in the frame.
The Raiders tacked on three more runs for an 11-2 lead in the sixth inning. This time three-straight singles led off frame, with Magyar driving in a run with the third. Witt drove in another run with a ground out and senior Wes Stasik capped the scoring with a single through the infield.
Senior Adam Vlaj (3-3) went the distance, striking out three and walking just one. He was effective, working around 11 hits in the game. He allowed a first-inning run and just one other run in the third.
All nine starters collected hits in game one, including six players with multi-hits and Roberts and senior David Miklosi each getting three.
In the second game, the Raider offense had just six hits and could not get started against the Pioneer starter Carl Formento (1-5). Roberts had two more hits and Stasik added two of his own.
On the mound, four seniors handled the work load on Senior Day, with Ben Falls (3-3) getting the start and taking the decision with three innings. Luke Yogerst pitched the next three innings, Stasik tossed a frame and Magyar closed out the game with two innings in his collegiate pitching debut.
Another senior of note was Witt, who got the start both games in right field. He collected two hits and two RBIs in the opener.
