Kundinger's Start Leads Raiders to Doubleheader Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FRANKLIN, Wis. - Senior Josh Kundinger threw six shutout innings in game one to lead the MSOE baseball team to a doubleheader split with Beloit Friday afternoon at The Rock Complex.

The Raiders (2-13) won game one 5-3 behind Kundinger's gem, but dropped the second game to the Buccaneers (7-3) 7-0 despite a strong outing by freshman Michael Boehmer.

Kundinger (1-2) struck out four and worked around four hits and three walks to keep Beloit off the scoreboard. Freshman Jimmy Carrington got the final four outs for his first save.

Eight of the starters got hits in the game for MSOE, led by freshman Jason Burant's two hits. He also reached on a walk and drove in a run. Freshman Jimmy Carrington had a hit to extend his hitting streak to 13 games, but went hitless in game two.

Burant drove in the Raiders's first run with a single down the left field line in the fourth inning, scoring senior Jake Roberts.

Then, in the fifth inning, all nine hitters came to the plate as the Red & White tacked on three more runs with two outs. The first run came on an errant pick-off throw and junior Nick Jablonski followed with a since to centerfield scoring another run. Junior Tyler Parisi then followed with a single to left field to drive in Roberts to make it 4-0.

Roberts added another insurance run with a single to centerfield in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Buccaneers struck for all three of its runs with two outs in the eighth inning. Ryan Kaveney had a pinch-hit, two-run single and Mike Gulve followed with another run-scoring single to pull the visitors within 5-3 and two runners on base.

Carrington entered the game and quickly induced an inning-ending groundout.

Beloit loaded the bases in the ninth inning on a walk, error and hit batter, but a fly out to middle centerfield ended the threat.

In game two, Boehmer (0-3) allowed three runs over 6.1 innings, but was stuck with the loss as the offense managed just five hits.

Junior Tyler Doyle reached base four times with a hit and three walks, while junior Casey Magyar also walked twice and freshman Ryan Newman added two hits in the game.

The Raiders return to action at The Rock next Saturday against Edgewood in their NACC opener.
