AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Freshman Jimmy Carrington and sophomore Eric Kremers had two hits and an RBI apiece and senior Thomas Hartwick had a quality start, but it was not enough as the MSOE baseball team suffered a 6-2 setback at the hands of Coe Saturday in the final game of their season-opening Florida trip.

The Raiders (0-11) led 2-0 heading into the six inning, but the Kohawks (1-0) pulled a run back in that inning and had a four-run seventh inning to run away in the end.

Carrington extended his hitting streak to 10 games when he laced a two-out single up the middle to score freshman Ryan Newman from second.

MSOE then manufactured a second run in the fourth inning, capitalizing on freshman Matt Melbye's lead-off single. He moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt and another 90 feet on a ground out. Kremers followed with a base hit to right field to make it 2-0.

The Kohawks pulled a run back in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly and seized the lead with four runs in the seventh.

Hartwick (0-2) had been cruising along with three strikeouts and just four hits allowed through six innings, before surrendering a pair of singles in the first three batters he faced in the seventh. Both runners came around to score during the frame for Coe, which seized a 5-2 advantage.

The Kohawk pitchers took over, retiring nine of the final 10 Raider hitters of the game, including the first eight after taking the lead.

MSOE returns to action next weekend, playing three games hosted by Capital in Chillicothe, Ohio. The Raiders will play Elmurst, Northland and the host Crusaders.
