Raiders Stymied at The Rock by CUW

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILWAUKEE – Senior Thomas Hartwick tossed his second complete game of the season in game two, but it was not enough as the MSOE baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Concordia Wisconsin Sunday afternoon at The Rock Complex.

The Raiders (5-23, 2-10 NACC) were unable to get on the board over two games, as the Falcons (13-13, 7-5 NACC) posted shutouts of 4-0 and 2-0 on the day.

Hartwick (0-5) suffered a tough luck loss in the nightcap, allowing just five hits and two runs over nine innings. He walked one and struck out one.

Concordia scored single runs in the second and sixth innings, using timely hitting for the first run. After a lead-off double, Hartwick induced the next two hitters to ground out before Noah Greenberg followed with an RBI single.

The visitors then manufactured their second run in the sixth with a walk, sacrifice bunt and RBI single.

For the Raiders, the threats were few and far between. They took advantage of CUW errors to put multiple runners on in the first and fourth innings, but could not get the timely hit.

MSOE's best chance was the sixth, when junior Casey Magar led off with a double and junior Tyler Doyle walked. A double play snuffed out the rally, while another double play wiped out a lead-off single in the ninth inning.

Senior Josh Kundinger (2-4) threw the opener and gave a strong performance with four runs allowed over 7.1 innings. He had to work around 11 hits and three walks, striking out four. Doyle finished out the game with 1.2 of scoreless relief.

Kundinger was in control early with three 1-2-3 innings over the first four. CUW struck for a single run in the fifth and loaded the bases to no avail in the sixth. After the first two hitters of the seventh inning were retired, the Falcons manufactured another run. They then added a pair in the eighth to account for the game's scoring.

The Raiders six hits in the game were scattered over five different innings, as they were unable to put together any kind of rally. They did have back-to-back two-out singles in the sixth, but a ground out ended the threat.

Magyar, Doyle and freshman Jimmy Carrington each had hits in both games, while junior Ryan Miller collected a pair of hits in the first game.

MSOE returns to action next Saturday hosting Marian at The Rock. First pitch is at noon.
