Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, Wis. – Marian hit six home runs, including four in game one, in handing the MSOE baseball team a pair of losses in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at The Rock Complex.
The Raiders (5-25, 2-12 NACC) fell in the opener 11-3, despite trailing just 1-0 after five innings. The Sabres (14-23, 9-3 NACC) then broke open game two with six runs in the fifth in their way to an 11-1 win in eight innings.
The opener looked like it would be a pitcher's duel, as MU had the game's lone run through five innings. TJ McCoy them put his team ahead with the first of two home runs in the game, a three-run shot to right field in the sixth inning to make it 4-0.
MSOE answered back with two runs of its own in the bottom of the inning, with juniors Tyler Doyle and Ryan Miller hitting back-to-back RBI singles.
The Sabres pulled a run back with another home run, but Miller cancelled that out with an RBI double to make it 5-3, all in the seventh inning.
Home runs put the game out of reach, as the visitors scored three runs in each of the final two frames. They had a two-run home run in each, as McCoy hit his second of the game to cap the scoring in the eighth inning.
Senior Josh Kundinger (2-5) took the loss despite throwing at least seven innings in his fourth-straight start. He struck out two and walked one. At the plate, freshman Ryan Newman led the charge with three hits.
The teams traded runs in the second inning of game two, with the first of two hits from junior Eric Kremers driving in the tying run. MU then pulled away with two more runs in the third inning and broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning. It then tacked on extra runs in the sixth and eighth innings to end the game prematurely.
Kremers was the only Raider with multiple hits in game two, while Miller added another hit and scored the team's lone run.
Freshman Michael Boehmer (0-4) saw hit quality start streak snapped at five-straight, yielding nine runs over five innings. He did strike out five against just one walk.
MSOE will look to get back on the winning track Sunday at Rockford.
