Box Score 2 LISLE, Ill. – The MSOE baseball received a pair of strong starting pitching performances, but could not match the effort at the plate in falling to Benedictine in two games, 4-0 and 6-0, Monday afternoon at The Sports Complex.
The Raiders (5-19, 2-6 NACC) managed 12 hits over the two games against the Eagles (10-11, 5-1 ACC), but could not scratch a run across the plate in the sweep.
Senior Thomas Hartwick (0-4) went 7.1 innings in game one and worked around eight hits to allow just three runs. Junior Ryan Miller collected two of the team's four hits in the game.
In game two, errors foiled freshman Ryan Newman's (1-4) start. He was charged with six earned runs in the game, but just two were earned as he tossed seven strong innings.
The Raiders had better luck against the Eagles in game two, but were still unable to score. Freshmen Jimmy Carrington and Jason Burant collected two hits apiece.
Mike Irgang went the distance in the opener for BenU and struck out six. Christopher Jordan claimed the game two shutout, striking out two over nine innings.
MSOE will look to get its offense back on track Saturday in a doubleheader at Lakeland.
