Box Score 2 FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Senior Tyler Doyle finished with seven hits and 10 RBIs over two games as the MSOE baseball team routed Marian in a pair of games Sunday afternoon at Herr-Baker Field.
The Raiders (15-13, 6-4 NACC) rebounded from a sweep Saturday to pound out 28 runs and 30 hits against the Sabres (7-16, 0-8 NACC) on Sunday. MSOE won game one 13-5, then took game two 15-3 in eight innings due to the run rule.
Doyle had hits in each of his final four at bats of game one and drove in six runs. Then, in game two, he had three more hits with four RBIs. Overall, he was 7-for-12 with three doubles. Sophomore Jimmy Carrington, who had a six-RBI game earlier this week, added six hits on the day, also posting a four-hit game one.
MSOE got the scoring started early in game one with a pair of unearned runs in the first inning, but Marian cancelled out the 2-0 deficit with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
A wild pitch brought home a Red & White run in the second and Doyle drove in a run with a single in the fourth. The Raiders then struck for three more runs in the seventh to make it 7-2. Doyle had another two RBIs on a double in the inning, while the other run came in on an error.
The Sabres would put a three-spot on the board in the bottom half of the inning to pull within 7-5, but MSOE quickly answered with a five run eighth inning. There were runners on first and second with two outs before they scored a run. A hit batter and two walks forced in a pair of runs and left the bases loaded. Doyle quickly emptied the diamond with a three-run double.
Sophomore Max Kemp then drove in the final run with a fielder's choice in the ninth.
Junior Jacob Roley (4-2) picked up his fourth win of the season with four strikeouts and just two earned runs allowed over 6.2 innings of work. Junior Brandon McCumber worked the 2.1 innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts to earn his second save of the season.
Marian seemed determined to bounce back in game two with three runs in the first inning for an early lead. Fortunately for the Raiders, they struck for a run in the second and broke open the game with five more runs in the third and another in the fourth. After plating a single run in the seventh, MSOE ended the game after eight innings with seven runs in the eighth.
The Raiders batted around in both the third and eighth innings, sending 13 batters to the dish in the latter. Sophomore Garrett Willems went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs in game two, whle McCumber and seniors Ryan Miller and Casey Magyar hid two hits and two RBIs each.
Willems and Miller also reached two more times with a pair of walks each.
Sophomore Ryan Newman (2-2) came back after a tough first inning and allowed just two more hits over his final six innings of work. He struck out two and allowed just five hits in seven total innings. McCumber then finished the game with a 1-2-3 eighth inning.
The Raiders return to the field Wednesday with a non-conference game at No. 2 UW-Whitewater.
