Box Score 2 AURORA, Ill. – Sophomore Michael Boehmer yielded just two earned runs over seven innings, but it was not enough as the MSOE baseball team saw its bats go cold in a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Aurora Sunday afternoon at Stuart Sportsplex.
The Raiders (17-16, 8-6 NACC) finished with just one run on nine hits over the two games, falling to the Spartans (18-16, 9-7 NACC) by scores of 5-0 in game one and 5-1 in game two.
Boehmer (4-4) was the tough-luck loser in game one, scattering five hits over seven innings of work. He struck out two and walked none in lowering his season earned run average to 2.87.
The game was scoreless through five innings, as Boehmer had allowed just one hit. Aurora broke the deadlock with two runs on three hits in the sixth inning. An error, single and sacrifice in the seventh inning gave the home team a 3-0 lead.
The Spartans would tack on two more runs in the eighth inning for the final score.
Sophomore Owen Burnikel provided all of the offense in game two, hitting his sixth home run of the game in the fifth inning to pull MSOE within 4-1. It was his second home run of the week, following a solo shot at No. 3 UW-Whitewater Wednesday.
Sophomore Ryan Newman (2-3) got the start on the mound and threw 2.2 innings. He allowed six hits, three runs and two walks in the game. Freshman Sam Crawford tossed 3.1 innings and junior John Dzurka closed out the game with two scoreless innings of relief.
The Raiders take a break from conference play when they return to the field Tuesday at NCAA Division I Milwaukee.
