BROOKFIELD, Wis. – The MSOE men's tennis team dropped just one singles point in rolling to their second-straight conference win of the season, 8-1, over Aurora Saturday afternoon at Elite Club – West Brookfield.
The Raiders (4-9, 2-0 NACC) had four double winners on the day against the Spartans (0-3, 0-1 NACC).
Juniors John Price and Tom Smith were two of the double winners at the top of both the singles and doubles lineups. The pair started their day with an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. In singles play, Price scored a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 and Smith prevailed 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.
Juniors Austin Campbell and Tyler Haanen also completed the double, starting off with an 8-1 partnership at No. 3 doubles. Campbell stepped up to No. 3 singles, his highest position as a collegian, and overcame a 6-3 loss in set one to take the final two sets 6-4, 10-5. Haanen played No. 5 singled and also had to comeback, rebounding from a 6-4 loss to win 7-5, 10-8.
Rounding out the winners was sophomore Ryan Runke and junior Kyle Fassbender. Playing in the No. 4 position, Runke claimed a three-set win 6-2, 4-6, 10-7. Meanwhile, Fassbender was a straight-sets winner at No. 6, 6-4, 6-0.
The Raiders are back on the court Sunday, playing Edgewood and Marian in Janesville.
