Box Score 2 MEQUON, Wis. – Sophomore Michael Boehmer shut the door with 3.2 innings of scoreless relief after a solid start by freshman Sam Crawford as the MSOE baseball team earned a split with Concordia Wisconsin with a 7-2 win in game two Sunday afternoon at Kapco Park.
The Raiders (19-18, 10-7 NACC) fell in game one, 4-0, but got after the Falcons (18-17, 11-7 NACC) with a five-run third inning in the nightcap.
Crawford improved to 3-0 on the season with 5.1 innings of work, scattering nine hits and allowing just two runs. He struck out two and walked one in his longest outing of the season. Boehmer came on with two runners on and one out in the sixth inning, retiring the first two batters he faced. He allowed just two hits and struck out four to collect his second save.
CUW scored first with a run in the opening frame, but MSOE answered right back. Back-to-back doubles to lead off the second inning by freshman Nick Gross and sophomore Owen Burnikel resulted in a run scored.
The Falcons would take the lead with another score in the second inning, but the Raiders surged ahead with a big third inning.
Back-to-back singles got things started in the inning, setting up a sacrifice fly from sophomore Jimmy Carrington to tie the score at 2-2. Sophomore Garrett Willems then drove in a run with a double and Gross followed with a single. Burnikel then hit an RBI single to make it 4-2.
After an error and passed ball plated another run, sophomore Max Kemp capped the scoring with an RBI ground out.
The Red & White tacked on another run in the ninth inning, capitalizing on a lead-off double from senior Casey Magyar. He went to third on a fly out and scored on a suicide squeeze bunt from sophomore Ryan Newman, which resulted in a base hit for the speedy Newman.
Burnikel, Newman and Gross had two hits each, while Burnikel drove in two runs and Gross scored twice.
MSOE finished with just six hits in game one and Concordia Wisconsin did all of its damage against junior starting pitcher Jacob Roley in the fourth inning.
Roley (5-3) faced the minimum in an inning just twice, but was effective outside of the big inning. He scattered nine hits in an eight-inning complete game with one walk and a strikeout.
Six different players collected hits for the Red & White, including Newman who, with his performance in game two, extended his hitting streak to seven-straight games.
The Raiders are back in action Monday, hosting Dominican in the second game of a scheduled doubleheader from Saturday.
