Men's Tennis Rolls to Shutout Win Over Aurora

BROOKFIELD, Wisconsin – The MSOE men's tennis team improved to 2-0 in conference play with a 9-0 shutout of Aurora Saturday afternoon at Highlander Elite.

The Raiders (2-5, 2-0 NACC) knocked off the Spartans (2-6, 0-2 NACC) for their second win of the weekend, each over a league tournament qualifier from last season and by a combined score of 17-1.

All six members of the MSOE lineup picked up wins in both singles and doubles play.

Seniors Ryan Runke and Brad Phoenix picked up an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles and Runke scored a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles for his first win of the season. Phoenix made it back-to-back wins for the weekend with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.

Sophomores Luke Nelson and Curt Norton were the No. 2 doubles pairing, and 8-2 victors. Nelson improved to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Norton won 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 3.

Finally, freshman Connor Splinaire and Bryan Roob won their No. 3 doubles match, 8-4. Splingaire had a decisive 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles and Roob fought off his opponent at No. 6, 7-5, 6-3.

The Raiders are back in action with a league doubleheader next Saturday at Edgewood in the morning and at Marian in the afternoon.
