Power Play Goals Pushes Raiders To 3-0

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. – MSOE hockey battled hard on Friday night but were unable to come away with a win against the USA U-18 National team, so you knew that they would play twice as hard to get a non-conference win against the Bulldogs of Adrian. The Raiders were able to convert on two of their power play chances and stellar goaltending sealed the deal in their 3-1 win over AC.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 3
Adrian – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE (3-0-0) was extremely advantageous this afternoon in Michigan and put the chances that came their way to good use early on. An Adrian (4-5-0) penalty just four minutes into the game set up the Raiders first goal of the weekend. Stian Owens and Christian Sabin set up captain Jeff Makowski on the power play to put the Raiders up 1-0. The Red & White made sure to add an insurance score to their total before the period was up when Garrett Gintoli buried the eventual game winner on his own with just 50 seconds left before the first intermission. All was quite on both sides in the second, but the Bulldogs made things interesting late when they pulled within one with less than five minutes left to go in regulation. Matt Hanewall put a stop to whatever momentum Adrian was building, however. The sophomore was aided by Jack Nickels and Kyle Herbster just 1:32 seconds later to end the scoring in todays battle. Rock Boynton played an inspired game stopping 38 of the 39 shots he faced as the Raiders stay undefeated with the two-goal victory over Adrian in a non-NCHA game.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • This was the Raiders first win against Adrian since February 15, 2019 when they came away with another 3-1 victory on the road.
  • Garrett Gintoli keeps on producing and leads the team with five points through three regular season games.
  • Gintoli was named the first star of the afternoon with Rock Boynton being right behind in the second spot.
