Raiders Comeback Powers Afternoon Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GLENDALE, Wis. – With just three series left in the season, MSOE baseball started their push towards the playoffs this afternoon against Concordia Wisconsin. While an improbable comeback in game one shifted the momentum to the Raiders, a very questionable call during game two prevented the Red & White from taking the sweep at home.

RESULTS
Game One
Concordia Wisconsin – 7
MSOE RAIDERS – 8

Game Two
Concordia Wisconsin – 5
MSOE RAIDERS – 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE (9-11, 6-4 NACC North) snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in game one. MSOE took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning but would not be able to score again until the sixth. Meanwhile Concordia Wisconsin (14-11, 5-5 NACC North) took the lead with three in the fourth and padded it with a run in the eighth and three in the ninth. Down 7-2 entering their last at bats, the Raiders put on their rally caps. The Red & White loaded the bases with one out and plated three runs on back-to-back singles from Brandon Beauchamp and Josh Beier. Micah Overley then grounded out to second which scored Beauchamp and moved Beier to third. Nick Stricker was next in line with a double that plated Beier to tie the game and Chris Barnes knocked in Stricker to complete the comeback and take game one in dramatic fashion 8-7.

The second game of the afternoon had a much different outcome. The Red & White once again took a 1-0 lead before the Falcons put up a four spot in the fifth. The Raiders would tie the game with three runs in the next two innings however, setting the game up for another tense outcome. Unfortunately, it was CUW that would feel the joy in this one. An eighth inning single set up a play at the plate where Noah Ernst tagged the runner out. However, the umpire called the runner safe due to catcher interference. The call was extremely questionable at best but it gave the Falcons a one run lead that would hold up in the 5-4 MSOE loss.

WHO'S ON DECK
The same two teams will battle it out tomorrow up in Mequon. Game three of the four game series is slated to start at Noon.
