Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 GLENDALE, Wis. – Good teams know how to quickly put bad losses behind them. MSOE baseball did just that when they welcomed Edgewood to MSOE Raiders Stadium. The Raiders put the sweep by #18 Aurora in their rearview mirror and decided to take two from the Eagles behind a pair of dominate starts and impressive offense on Monday afternoon.
RESULTS
Edgewood – 0
MSOE RAIDERS – 10
Edgewood – 5
MSOE RAIDERS – 8
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game One
- It was complete domination from MSOE (13-12, 8-4 NACC) in the first ballgame of the afternoon. The Raiders scored at least one run in all but two innings and ended the ballgame after eight by invoking the mercy rule against Edgewood (14-10, 7-5 NACC)
- The inning that broke things wide opened happened in the third. Collin Truitt started things off with an RBI sac fly before Blake Hall plated a run with a single. Micah Overley scored moments later on a wild pitch which was then followed by a Nolan Wojciechowski RBI to put the Red & White up 5-0.
- While the offense did their thing, starter Tyler Gronert (6-1) was a man on a mission. The senior gave up just five hits while striking out eight and kept the Eagles off the scoreboard in the 10-0 victory.
- Gronert now leads the NACC with six wins and has two more complete games than anyone else in the conference.
- Game Two
- The Raiders offense kept things going in the second contest, scoring seven runs in the first three innings. The big blow once again came in the third frame when Josh Beier tripled to score two runs one inning after he knocked in another RBI in the second.
- Wojciechowski touched them all with his first career home run to close out the scoring for MSOE in the top of the fifth to go up 8-1 before Edgewood tried to mount a comeback.
- The Eagles scored three in the sixth and one in the seventh to cut the Raiders lead down to three, but starter Nolan Vincent (2-2) wouldn't let them get any closer.
- The sophomore hurler gave up just three earned runs and struck out nine while going the distance in the Red & White's 8-5 win.
