Raiders Take One Of Two From Dominican

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GLENDALE, Wis. – MSOE baseball was back playing at the friendly confines of MSOE Raiders Stadium to take on Dominican just a couple days removed from getting a taste of the big leagues. While miscues cost the Raiders a shot at the series sweep, they came back with a powerful performance in game two to split with the Stars.

RESULTS
Dominican – 5
MSOE RAIDERS – 3

Dominican – 3
MSOE RAIDERS – 8

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Game One
    • Errors and walks can kill you and that is exactly what happened to open up the day for MSOE (18-15, 13-5 NACC). An error to the first batter of the afternoon ended up leading to two Dominican (19-13, 10-8 NACC) runs in the top of the first and that 2-0 lead would hold for quite some time.
    • The Raiders finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth when Micah Overley drove in Brandon Beauchamp but wild pitches and walks in the top of the eighth added three more runs to the Stars total.
    • Another Red & White comeback began in the bottom half of the eighth and MSOE scored thanks to a single from Blake Hall and a double by Brandon Besch to cut the DU lead down to 5-3. The Raiders couldn't make anything happen in their last at-bats however and left seven runners on the basepaths in a two-run loss.
    • Chris Barnes took the tough luck decision but allowed just one earned run in seven innings.
  • Game Two
    • The Raiders needed to rebound in the second game of the day to keep pace with the leaders in the NACC and got off to a good start with three runs in the bottom of the first, two of which came around on pitches that went to the backstop.
    • MSOE added to their lead with a two RBI double from Nolan Wojciechowski in the third and a single from Collin Truitt that plated Beauchamp in the fourth.
    • The only Dominican runs came around in the fifth inning but two of the three were unearned. The Red & White added insurance tallies in the seventh and eighth to complete the 8-3 victory.
    • Starter Nolan Vincent went the distance and struck out nine while allowing just one earned run to lower his ERA to a sparkling 2.16.
