Raiders Win Two, Brush Aside Pitcher Of The Year

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MEQUON, Wis. – MSOE baseball entered the 2022 NACC tournament on a three-game winning streak and were looking to add to that total with what they hoped would be two games on Friday. The Raiders got their wish, grabbing a pair of wins in battles over Concordia Chicago and Benedictine at Kapco Park on the campus of Concordia Wisconsin.

RESULTS
No. 6 Concordia Chicago – 1
No. 3 MSOE RAIDERS – 10

No. 3 MSOE RAIDERS – 10
No. 2 Benedictine – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Game One vs. No. 6 Concordia Chicago
    • Third seeded MSOE (25-16, 18-6 NACC) was in full control in the opening contest of the 2022 NACC baseball tournament against sixth seeded Concordia Chicago (19-20, 12-12 NACC). The Raiders started their march towards win number one with a two-run bottom of the second.
    • Still holding on to their 2-0 advantage, the Red & White padded their lead by adding four in the sixth. Kyle Labedz and Brandon Beauchamp knocked in runs the conventional way while Labedz would go on to score thanks to one of CUC's three errors.
    • Blake Hall touched home plate on a wild pitch in the seventh to make it 7-0 good guys and MSOE added three more in the bottom of the eighth just to be safe.
    • Meanwhile, Nolan Vincent was stoic on the mound, scattering six Cougar hits and one earned run in his fourth complete game of the season. The 10-1 Raiders win sent them into the third game on Thursday afternoon.
  • Game Two vs. No. 2 Benedictine
    • Waiting for them in that contest was second seeded Benedictine (26-12, 20-4 NACC) and their NACC Pitcher of the Year. Some believed that the Raiders very own Tyler Gronert should have been awarded that honor and the Red & White clearly used that as bulletin board material to brush the Eagles pitcher aside.
    • A Blake Hall RBI double in the top of the first set the table for the MSOE offense and they plated another one in the fifth off a Josh Beier sacrifice. Benedictine would score their only run in the bottom half of that inning, allowing the Raiders to pad their lead further from that point on.
    • Hall homered in the sixth after a Micah Overley sacrifice fly to make it 4-1 and the Red & White put the game out of save territory in the eighth with four runs and plated two more in the ninth for good measure.
    • Chris Barnes matched Vincent's one run complete game and allowed just a single hit more than his teammate. Barnes struck out five and got the Eagles to leave ten on base in another 10-1 win.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • With the victory over Benedictine, the Raiders tied the program record for wins in a season with 25.
  • The Red & White have now started off the NACC tournament by outscoring their opponents 20-2.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

  • Game One
  • Game Two
    • Blake Hall: 3-for-5, three runs scored, three RBIs, two doubles, home run
