Raiders Grab One As Playoffs Draw Closer

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – With their postseason bid already locked up, MSOE baseball headed into their last road doubleheader of the regular season trying to improve their seeding for the NACC tournament. The Raiders couldn't overcome miscues in game one but a dominant pitching performance in the second half of the twin bill helped the Red & White split with Marian on Friday afternoon.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 5
Marian – 6

MSOE RAIDERS – 3
Marian – 0

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Game One
    • MSOE (21-16, 16-6 NACC) couldn't take care of the ball against Marian (15-20, 10-12 NACC) in game one and committed five errors that led to two unearned runs in the second inning that proved to be the difference in the contest.
    • The Raiders didn't get the bats going until late. Down 3-1 in the eighth, the Red & White rallied to score three runs including two that came across on a Kyle Labedz single.
    • A Francis Ryan base hit that also took place in the eighth cut the MSOE deficit to just two runs and Blake Hall cut that in half with a single to left in the top of the ninth. Unfortunately, Hall was left on first base as the Raiders ended the game with a groundout to second that earned the Sabres the 6-5 win.
  • Game Two
    • Nolan Vincent was so dominant in game two that all the Red & White had to do was score one run and the Raiders starter would do the rest.
    • A Nathan Kennedy double in the second, a Micah Overley single in the seventh, and a Collin Truitt sac fly in the ninth provided all three of the MSOE runs against a Marian offense that had one less hit than the Raiders but couldn't push anyone across.
    • Vincent went all nine innings for his third outing where he went the distance this season and the first complete game shutout of his career. The sophomore lowered his ERA to a league leading 1.87 in the process.
