UW-River Falls Edges MSOE 1-0

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Mike Williams scored the game's lone goal to lead UW-River Falls past the MSOE hockey team 1-0 Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.

Freshman Austin Campbell made 32 saves in his second career start for the Raiders (0-8), while Tanner Milliron propelled the Falcons (4-1-1) with 23 saves in the shutout.

MSOE came out strong in the opening period, doubling up UWRF on shots 10-5, but could not solve Milliron in goal. The second period was another story, as the Falcons peppered the Red and White goal with 21 shots.

For the most part the Raider defense was up to the task. Unfortunately for the home team, Williams converted a rebound off a Campbell save into the only goal River Falls would need. That seemed to steer momentum towards the visitors for the remainder of the frame, but did not result in any more goals.

The Raiders looked for the equalizer in the third period, but, once again, found it difficult to navigate the Falcon goal. MSOE gained an 8-7 shot advantage, but could not find the back of the net. The defense stayed tough, though, keeping the score the same despite an empty net for 44 seconds and four UWRF shots at it.

MSOE will now have the Thanksgiving break off, before returning to the ice Dec. 6-7 at Northland in Ashland, Wis.
