Raiders Fall To Defending National Champs UWEC

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – No. 12/10 UW-Eau Claire scored four times in the second period to break open a scoreless game and pull away on its way to a 6-1 defeat of the MSOE hockey team Friday evening at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (1-10) hung with the Blugolds (6-3-1) for a period, before the visitors struck for four goals on six shots in the second period to seemingly put the game out of reach.

The game opened with a physical, evenly-played first period. UWEC held a slight 6-5 shot advantage in a period that saw 11 penalties called.

Ross Anderson then led the charge in period two, setting up a pair of goals and scoring one of his own. Joe Krause opened the scoring at 6:06 with a power play goal, deflecting in Anderson's shot from out near the blue line. Anderson then found Daniel Olszewski with a centering pass for a 2-0 lead at 12:11.

Olszewski and Alex Olson set up Anderson's goal at 14:42 and the period's scoring was capped at 18:05 on a Jared Williams score.

MSOE pulled a goal back, just 22 into the third period. Freshman Gage Christianson netted his second goal of the year with a quick rebound shot. Senior West Bauman took the initial shot from out front and freshman Dan Sherer also assisted on the goal.

Eau Claire re-established its four-goal advantage when Jack Callahan scored at 4:56 of the final period and David Donnellan added a 5-on-3 power play goal at 15:57 to make it 6-1.

The Raiders now have the rest of the calendar year off before returning to action Jan. 3-4 at the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament hosted by No. 6/5 Norwich in Northfield, Vt.
