Box Score MILWAUKEE – Senior Marly Trier led four players in double-figures to lead the MSOE women's basketball team to its sixth-straight win, 75-63, over Lakeland Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.
The Raiders' (8-1, 5-1 NACC) defense stepped up, forcing the Muskies (2-7, 2-5 NACC) into 24 turnovers and holding them without a field goal for a stretch of 7:19 in the first half.
Trier scored 17 points, while three other starters notched 13 apiece in junior Megan Kroll and sophomores Holly Denfeld and Shaylan Reardon. Kroll also had five steals in the game, while Denfeld pulled down seven rebounds, blocked two shots and had a pair of steals.
Kayla Clark led Lakeland with 18 points, hitting on four 3-pointers in the game. Trista Barron scored 12 points and Mikayla Hilton chipped in 11. Rachel Stankevich scored nine points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
The visitors came out of the games on fire, jumping out to a 14-4 lead. The Muskies made seven of their first eight shots in the game and expanded their lead to 19-8 before MSOE caught fire.
The Raiders were within seven at 28-21 with 8:22 to play in the half when the defense stepped up. They held LC without a field goal until 1:04 to go before halftime, while rattling off a 19-1 run. A Denfeld three-point play pushed the Red & White ahead of the Muskies and another "and-1" from Trier capped the streak to make it 40-29.
MSOE led 41-31 at halftime and continued to pull away. It built its lead has high as 20 at 66-46 with 6:48 to play and cruised to the victory. The Muskies hit three late three-pointers to make the score closer at the end.
The Red & White shot 48.3 percent for the game, turning the ball over just 10 times. The team surrendered just two steals, nearly eight below Lakeland's average coming into the game. After its hot start, LC cooled off to 47.9 percent shooting in the game.
The Raiders return to action after Christmas, heading to California for a pair of games Dec. 29-30.
