Raiders Rout Dubuque For Fifth Win

Box Score

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The MSOE lacrosse team had two freshmen with hat tricks and four more players score multiple goals on its way to a decisive 16-2 victory over Dubuque Saturday afternoon at Oyen Field.

The Raiders (5-7) broke a 1-1 tie with seven-straight goals and answered the Spartans' (2-7) second goal with eight unanswered scores to roll to the victory and extend their school record for wins in a season.

Freshman Clay Gustafson was the high-scorer of the match with four goals and an assist, while freshman Thomas Reid notched three goals and assisted on two more. Senior Brent Finnegan, junior Zachary Markell and freshmen Oliver Kennedy and Jake Carney each scored two goals.

Finnegan finished with six assists.

Britton Harris and Colin Grever each scored for Dubuque.

Kennedy opened the scoring just under five minutes into the game, but UD tied the score 2:14 later.

From that point on, it was all MSOE.

Gustafson gave the Red & White the lead back, then was a part of three-straight goals in a 54-second span to close out the first-quarter scoring. The Raiders then added three more goals in the second period to take an 8-1 lead into halftime.

The Spartans opened the scoring in the third period, but MSOE scored four times in the frame. Reid scored two of three up goals in the quarter. The fourth quarter saw four more goals to provide for the final margin.

Freshmen Pat Collins and Sam Kopecky each played a half in goal, combining to allow the fewest goals for the team this season. Collins played the opening half and stopped two shots for the victory. Kopecky made five saves in the second half.

Reid and freshman Oliver Winsor each collected six ground balls, while senior James Simonson caused two turnovers.

The Raiders return to action Wednesday, hosting Benedictine at Viets Field.
