Box Score MILWAUKEE – Senior Brent Finnegan scored four goals to lead the MSOE lacrosse team in action against Benedictine, a 15-6 loss, Wednesday evening at Viets Field.
It was Finnegan's third hat trick of the season for the Raiders (5-8, 1-4 MLC), and second four-goal game, but it was not enough against the first-place Eagles (11-3, 5-0 MLC)
Senior Zachary Dawiec and freshman Oliver Winsor also scored goals for MSOE.
Blake Keenan, David Blanco and Andrew Zmijewski each tallied Benedictine
The Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter before back-to-back Finnegan goals halved that deficit for MSOE at 4-2. The visitors then would score the final goal of the first quarter and the opening score of the second to re-assert their four goal advantage.
After Finnegan completed his hat trick, BenU scored two more times to make for an 8-3 halftime lead.
Winsor scored an up goal to make it 8-4 and Benedictine scored just twice in the third quarter for a 10-4 advantage. Two early non-releasable penalties in the fourth quarter allowed the Eagles back-to-back up goals, including one with a two-man advantage, for a 12-5 lead. After goals by Finnegan and Dawiec, they then closed out the game with three-straight scores to account for the final tally.
Freshman goalies Pat Collins and Sam Kopecky split halves in the game. Collins had the start and made nine saves, while Kopecky stopped five shots in the second half. Senior Jesus Arguelles led the defensive effort in front of them with seven ground balls and five forced turnovers.
The Raiders continue their busy week with back-to-back matches this weekend at Hope Saturday and at home against Dallas Sunday.
