Raiders Can't Hold Off Lakeland in Loss

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Lakeland finished on a 13-2 run to overcome a late seven-point deficit and upend the MSOE women's basketball team 64-60 Wednesday evening at Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Raiders (15-7, 13-4 NACC) led by as many as nine early in the second half and still held a 58-51 lead with just under five minutes remaining when the Muskies (12-10, 11-6 NACC) forged a decisive comeback.

Junior Holly Denfeld scored 29 points on 13-of-21 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds for MSOE. Freshman Jamie Spanbauer finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Lakeland put three players in double-figures, including double-doubles from Rachel Stankevich and Bauley Grayvold. Stakevich had 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Grayvold had 15 points and 10 boards. Kayla Clark added 14 points in the game.

Denfeld made it 58-51 on a layup with 4:38 remaining in the game before the home team started its comeback. The Raiders went just 1-for-9 after that point, while LC went 5-for-7.

Clark hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 23 seconds to go, making it 62-60. After a timeout, MSOE's quick shot attempt was blocked and Lakeland came away with the rebound. Grayvold hit a pair of free throws with 17 seconds on the clock and the Raiders had two three-point attempts off the mark before the final horn.

MSOE shot 36.5 percent from the field for the game and went a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line. Lakeland finished at 34.3 percent, going just 4-for-24 from three-point range and 14-of-19 at the free throw line.

The Raiders return to the court Saturday at Dominican.
