Raiders Make History In Edgewood Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MADISON, Wis. – MSOE softball closed out their regular season last night, heading to Edgewood to play in an extremely rare Sunday night doubleheader. While Concordia-Wisconsin took home the NACC regular season crown, the Raiders still locked up the two seed and made some history along the way.

RESULTS
Game One (5 Innings)
MSOE Raiders – 9
Edgewood – 0

Game Two
MSOE Raiders – 8
Edgewood – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE (30-10, 18-4 NACC) were on cruise control all evening, easily coasting to the two-game sweep of Edgewood (8-26, 2-20 NACC). The first game saw the Raiders score in only two innings, but when they did score, they scored in bunches. Three runs came in the first inning, helped along two singles up the middle from Kim White (Plainfield, Ill. / South) and Emma Megal (Elm Grove, Wis. / Brookfield East).  The Red & White would wait for the fourth to add more to that total, plating six more runs to push the game into mercy rule territory. Emily Wiederholt (Cuba City, Wis. / Cuba City) was masterful once again, not allowing a run in the five innings she pitched to lower in ERA to 2.03 in the 9-0 victory.

The bats stayed hot in game two, scoring eight more across seven total innings. In fact, the offense has been so electric, they haven't scored under seven runs in six games. The Raiders plated two in the first, three in the second, and a single run in the third, fourth, and sixth to put the game out of reach. Emily Snow (Long Beach, Calif. / Millikan) drove in runs on three different occasions, and Lorrin Pondo (Bolingbrook, Ill. / Bolingbrook) picked up her 14th win of the year in the 8-2 win.

RAIDER REMARKS
The win the Raiders collected in the second game of the doubleheader was the teams 30th of the season. It was also the first time ever that the Red & White have reached the 30-win mark, setting a program record for wins in a campaign.

MSOE STAT TRACKER – TWO GAME TOTALS
Emily Snow – 3 runs, 5 hits, 5 RBIs
Amanda Manssen (Bull Valley, Ill. / McHenry West) – 2 runs, 5 hits, 2 RBIs
Kim White – 2 hits, 4 RBIs
Emily Wiederholt – 5 innings pitched, no runs allowed, 4 hits given up

WHO'S ON DECK
The Red & White will play the waiting game to see who their first competitor of the 2019 NACC softball tournament is. While they don't have an opponent yet, they do have a date. Their opening game will be this Thursday, May 2nd at 4:00 pm in Montgomery, Ill.
