Raiders End Regular Season, Grab Third Seed For Playoffs

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILWAUKEE – It seemed like the 2022 campaign just began but MSOE softball closed out their regular season this afternoon with Wisconsin Lutheran at the MSOE Athletic Field. The Raiders just couldn't get the big hits they needed in game one but they were able to come back and grab a pitchers duel win from the Warriors in the second game of the doubleheader.

RESULTS
Wisconsin Lutheran – 6
#16 MSOE RAIDERS – 5

Wisconsin Lutheran – 0
#16 MSOE RAIDERS – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Game One
    • The first contest actually started eight days ago but was suspended due to rain in the bottom of the first with Wisconsin Lutheran (10-25, 3-18 NACC) leading No. 16 MSOE (24-8, 17-7 NACC) 1-0. The Raiders quickly erased that deficit though when Morgan Long hit her fourth home run of the season to make it 2-1.
    • The Warriors battled back, however. They plated two in the top of the second before Kara McKenna got the one run lead back for the Red & White with a two RBI double to left field.
    • Unfortunately, WLC scored three unanswered and while the Raiders had a chance to tie the game or even walk it off in the bottom of the seventh down 6-4, they were only able to plate one in a 6-5 loss.
  • Game Two
    • Starter Kennedy Lehn took things into her own hands in the second game of the day. The junior put the team on her back as she took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and only gave up that lone single all afternoon.
    • They didn't know it at the time, but the Raiders scored the game winning run in their first at bat. Lauren Stefanczyk walked with the bases load to put the Red & White up 1-0.
    • MSOE got an insurance run in the sixth inning when Delaney Martino grounded out to shortstop which allowed Celine Pacheco to score the second run of a 2-0 victory.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • Kennedy Lehn has set a new single season strikeout record. The junior now has 216 strikeouts to date, topping the previous mark of 194 that was set by Lorrin Pondo last season.
