Ploeckelman and Geerts Earn Major Awards; Men Finish Second at NACC Indoor Championship

KENOSHA, Wis. – In a tightly contested team battle coming down to the final event, the MSOE men's track & field team finished second at the NACC Indoor Conference Championship. Evan Ploeckelman and Daniel Geerts were honored with major awards, winning Track Athlete of the Meet and Freshman of the Meet, respectively.

RECAP 
  • Ploeckelman kicked off the weekend on Friday with the top time coming out of the 60-meter dash prelim in a new program best 6.86 seconds to set 31st nationally. On Saturday, he stayed on top, winning the event in 6.93 seconds. He followed that up with another title, winning the 200-meter dash in another school record 22.39. Geerts started the weekend having the second-fastest time in the prelims in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.62 seconds and repeated that same time on Saturday to finish second. He also added a second-place finish in the high jump with a new personal best 1.96 meters.
  • Xander Gottner got his first title in the 5,000-meter run, winning in 15:06.55 on Friday night. He then finished second to get his second all-conference honors of the weekend in the 3,000-meter run in a new personal best 8:41.12. Adam Shaw won the mile in 4:13.20 then added a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter run in 8:43.35. AJ Springer won his premier event the 800-meter run, finishing in 1:56.19. Kolby Dax also added his first all-conference honors indoors, finishing third in 15:25.85.
  • In the field events, Ethan Wrasman finished with two all-conference performances, first in the weight throw on Friday tossing 15.95 meters to finish third, while on Saturday he finished third in the shot put with a mark of 13.91 meters. Thomas Kiefer and Logan Marks each tied for fourth, finishing with marks of 4.34 meters.
WHAT'S NEXT
A select group will travel to Ripon next Saturday, March 8th, hoping punch their ticket to the NCAA National Championship in Rochester, New York. Action is set to begin at 12:00 PM.
