ROCHESTER, N.Y. – For the first time since 2009, both the MSOE men's and women's track & field teams were represented at the NCAA Indoor National Championships with
Adam Shaw,
AJ Springer, and
Jessa Alderman making the trip to Upstate New York. All three battled many challenges, both individually and within their event as just Shaw came away with All-American honors at the end.
RECAP
- Shaw kicked things off on Friday, taking the second heat of the men's mile prelim. In a heat that was very tactical with everyone preparing for their own massive kick, Shaw finished sixth overall in his heat, just two shy of automatically qualifying for Saturday's final, and 15th overall, giving him Second-Team All-American honors.
- Just a short hour later, Springer towed the line in heat three of the men's 800-meter run. Springer, who was battling an ankle issue heading into the race, finished sixth overall in his heat and 19th overall, running 2:02.25.
- Alderman was the lone Raider to compete on Saturday, taking the ring for the women's shot put. After scratching her first throw, Alderman landed her second throw, getting a mark of 12.40 meters. Alderman unfortunately couldn't not land her third throw cleanly, resulting with another scratch, having her finish ninth in her flight and 18th overall in her second straight indoor championship.
WORDS FROM MASSOELS
"I am so incredibly proud of this young group. It wasn't the outcome we envisioned or discussed but they gave everything they had this weekend and I know they aren't happy with their outcomes either. But as I told them, there are so many athletes that wished they were in Rochester this weekend."
WHAT'S NEXT
The Raiders will now set their sights for the outdoor season, which will kick off on March 28
th at the First Chance Invitational, hosted by North Central College.
