Box Score NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Senior Drew Porter (Milwaukee, Wis. / Dominican) scored a goal in just the 10th minute and the MSOE men's soccer team forced an own goal a minute later, but it was a dramatic 90th minute Cardinal goal that led to a 2-2 draw against North Central Wednesday evening at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
The Raiders (3-1-3) were 24 seconds from a 2-1 victory when the Cardinals (4-2-1) knotted the score on Bret Hruby's goal that forced extra time. The tie kept MSOE unbeaten in six road matches (3-0-3) so far this season.
Porter scored a goal in the first 10 minutes of a game for the second time this season, staking his side to an early lead off an assist from freshman Brock Shilling (New Berlin, Wis / West) at the 9:02 mark. It was Shilling that set up Porter's previous early score at Kalamazoo in the season-opener.
Just 61 seconds later, MSOE forced NCC into an own goal. Sophomore Logan Andryk (Hartland, Wis. / Marquette) played a dangerous ball into the box that a Cardinal defender hit into its own net to push the Raiders' lead to 2-0. The goal was originally credited to sophomore Gerardo Rubio (Rockford, Ill. / Auburn), whose pressure forced the play.
Hruby got the home team on the board in the 29th minute with an assist from Lucas Habeeb. Then, in the waning seconds of regulation, Hruby struck again, finishing off a cross from Michael Lenzi.
MSOE looked like it would withstand a furious Cardinal attack in the second half as the home team fought to even the score. NCC outshot the Raiders 12-3 in the frame, finally stiking for the equalizer late.
The Raiders return to action Saturday, opening NACC play at Marian. They will take on the Sabres in the first match of a men's/women's doubleheader at noon.
