Men's Soccer Shut Out at Dubuque, 2-0

Box Score

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The MSOE men's soccer team conceded a pair of first-half goals and was just unable to get its offense on track in falling to Dubuque, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Oyen Field.

The Raiders (3-4) had gotten the better of the Spartans (6-0) in each of the last two seasons, but were unable to generate many chances this time.

Gonzalo Hernandez converted both opportunities for UD unassisted. His first score came in the 26th minute, then he added an insurance tally in the 31st minute.

MSOE was unlucky not to score first as freshman Zach Blair hit the post in the 10th minute and freshman Zach Hanson nearly pulled a goal back just before halftime when he hit the post in the 42nd minute.

Senior Jeff Clements started in goal and made six saves in just under 66 minutes of action. His biggest, though, came in the 66th minute, when he denied Hernandez a hat trick by saving a penalty kick. Sophomore Ryan Snyder played the final 24-plus minutes in goal and made a pair of saves.

Dubuque held a 14-11 shot advantage, including 10-2 in shots on goal. The Raiders did force eight corner kicks in the game, compared to the Spartans' six, but was unable to take advantage of any.

MSOE returns to the field Wednesday, opening up league play at home against Edgewood. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
